Antibiotics – now!

Together with the Royal Netherlands Academy for Arts and Science (KNAW) the University of Groningen (represented by the CeSAM members Profs. Oscar Kuipers, Jan Willem Veening and Alex Friedrich) organized the symposium Antibiotics – Now!

This international meeting with just over 170 attendants was held in Groningen from May 2-3, 2016 and was opened by a video presentation of Minister Edith Schippers (Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sports) and a lecture of Dame Sally Davies (Chief Medical Officer of the UK Government). Over two day the series of plenary lectures covered the following topics:

  • The resistance problem and why don’t we have new drugs?
  • How to open the pipeline
  • New leads from the lab
  • New candidates from Nature
  • Synthesis and modification of antibiotics
  • Other viewpoints
  • The whole chain
